A Place for Healing
Hopes Kitchen is situated on a land trust that encompasses 80 acres, a beautiful creek, 3 springs, fenced pastures/corrals for horses, and forested lands and trails. The land is rich in wild-grown medicinal herbs. We are located in a wild valley of approximately 1,500 acres with no chemical agriculture yet within 5 miles of a college town. Hopes Kitchen has an office, library, and three guestrooms located in an 1890's farmhouse. Also, about 50' of the wrap-around deck, overlooking the creek, which enables outdoor instruction. Hope was Iyanifa Gaye's (the founder) African-Creole grandmother and teacher. Hope's Kitchen was Where All Love came from in her youth. She launched Hopes Kitchen in honor of Her. Hopes Kitchen is a "Rest house for front line activists," a place to receive and PRACTICE Healing, guided by Orisha Medicine Ways. Connect with us to book your visit.
The concept of Hope's Kitchen originally grew out of Gaye's work with Cancer and Healing. It was established as a home-based health care studio, a place to offer access to people choosing naturopathic medicine ways.
Hope's Kitchen now includes a library and study area, music room, trails for walking, a lovely creek and fresh-water springs, two guest rooms, a small cottage, and, best of all, a Big Country Kitchen with a wood cookstove - The Heart of Healing. Hope's Kitchen is named for Iyanifa Gaye's Grandmother Hope, whose generous love healed all.

Hopes Kitchen Reborn
In the deepest dark of cold and dreary winter, a small light still burns in my heart.
What is it nurtured by? I know not.
Surely I should be long gone by now, yet I remain.
With the knowledge, ever-expanding, that whatever I love shall blossom into being.
What I long to share is this beautiful body of Songs to the Divine Intelligence,
to the Universe itself.
I believe that...
We shall weave our homes of these Songs, our livelihoods woven of Song, until the very fabric of
our cells we know with utmost certainty
is woven of Song.
Then, we will dance in the streets,
our clothing a part of the great fabric of Song,
woven of moonlight and sunlight, waterlight and earthlight.
eclipse and starlight will shine in our hair, flowing out around us
as we graze upon the sweet melody of plant songs bursting with life
we will know ourselves/ ourcells in this moment,
to be
Song

The Story of Hopes Kitchen
Adeline the African, my Grandmother's Grandmother, came up the Mississippi River in the early 1860's from Louisiana by steamer boat. I find her in the genealogy. No birthdate, no last name. She is my African granny, my foundation stock, creolized by her migration over hundreds of years in the slave trade. There are no photos of Adeline, but I have a beautiful one of my Grandmother, Hope.
I am Creole/Irish Mixed Blood. I grew up on small subsistence farming, trained horses in my early years, then worked in construction and Earth restoration projects. I have built a straw bale studio from the ground up. I was educated in the US, France, and West Africa. I have an M.A in Spirituality and Geo-Justice. I've been initiated into the temple in Brazil. Most recently, I did a certificate in Sound, Voice, and Music Healing at CIIS/San Francisco. I practice and teach Qi Gong. I like to work, and I love to build. I sing, dance, and drum and have performed for many years with an Afro-Cuban group and taught the tradition in the schools(Minneapolis, Mn). I currently have several clients in the Bay Area/Oakland who would like a SongHome. I have a preliminary grant for materials and am looking for others to collaborate with. As a Community Cancer Prevention specialist, I am a Wholistic Cancer Educator and work with individuals, families, and communities on creating the conditions for health and well-being. |
